Richard began his career in 1986 with Cargill Inc. as a production supervisor at their corn wet milling and sweetener facility in Eddyville, Iowa. In 1988, he went on to work as a process & instrumentation engineer for Vulcan Chemicals in Wichita, Kansas. After spending almost six years as a “real” engineer, Richard decided to take the leap into technical sales and marketing. Over the next 20 years he held a variety of roles specializing in the development and implementation of business and commercial strategies designed to rapidly grow businesses. In 2008, Richard joined Solutia Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri as part of the Specialty Fluids business. During his tenure at Solutia, he held a number of career progressing roles, including Global Commercial Director, Specialty Fluids and Vice President, Commercial Services, Technical Specialties. Richard’s career at Solutia culminated in his becoming President and General Manager, Technical Specialties, where he was responsible for all commercial, manufacturing, technology, and strategic aspects for the division. The Technical Specialties division of Solutia included 14 global manufacturing facilities, approximately 900 employees and sales revenue of over $900M. After Solutia Inc. was acquired by Eastman Chemical Company on July 2, 2012, Richard left Solutia/Eastman and joined Quinpario Partners, a private investment and operating company focused in the specialty chemicals and performance materials industries, as an operating partner.
Richard, his wife Pam (BS CE 1986 UMR) and their two daughters reside in Wildwood, Missouri. Richard was inducted into the Academy in 2013.
