He joined Wright Killen & Co. as President in 1982, serving as a top management advisor to energy and chemical clients. He oversaw the successful merger of Wright Killen into Ernst & Young in 1996. Calvin currently leads his consulting firm, Calvin Cobb & Co., a Houston Management Consulting Company.

Professionally, Calvin was recognized as an AIChE Fellow in 1986, one of the highest honors that can be conferred on a chemical engineer and served as a Director of AIChE from 1995 to 1997. He served as President of AIChE in 2001. He was the 2005-2006 chair of the AIChE Institute of Sustainability. His involvement with UMR included serving on the departmental Industrial Advisory Committee and serving as Chairman from 1991 to 1997. Calvin was a member of the Executive Committee that established the Academy and was inducted into the inaugural Academy class in 1996. He received the Alumni Achievement Award in 1995. Calvin has been an OGS member since 1991. He served as OGS Executive Committee Chair and a member of the UMR Board of Trustees. Calvin was the UMR Commencement speaker in 2001 and 2007.

Calvin was Chair of the Board of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts from 2006 to 2021. The Pearl Fincher Museum reception gallery is named for Dr. Calvin and Carol Cobb in honor of their service. Calvin and his wife reside in Cypress, Texas.
