Terry began his career working at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, near Chattanooga. Tennessee, where he performed pre-startup testing and validation. He then moved to the Office of Energy Research and relocated to the Shawnee Test Facility near Paducah, Kentucky. The facility operated pilot plants for several flue gas desulfurization and advanced boiler technologies. Terry was responsible for the quality of all data generated by the facility and the execution of the test plan. He eventually assumed the role of Technical Supervisor of the facility and all engineers and laboratory personnel.

In 1988, after 11 years with TVA, Terry moved to the Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas and joined the Department of Process Control Engineering. Terry performed several different roles while in the department including capital project member/leader, supervisor, and asset utilization project team leader. During this period, Terry also became a Certified Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) coach/auditor, and a Certified Six Sigma Blackbelt. Terry also participated on the team that was charged with integrating the acquired Union Carbide assets into Dow.

In 2003, Terry joined Dow’s Process Automation Technology Center as the corporate Subject Matter Expert for State Based Control and Process Control Strategy Documentation. Terry represented Dow on the ISA 106, Procedural Process Control Standard development team. In this role, Terry led teams that developed several standards, tools, and training classes for the Process Automation Function.  In 2008, Terry moved to Dow’s Global Engineering and Technical Services Department to fill leadership roles on large “mega” projects; one in China, and later, one in Texas.
