Jeffrey Costellia is a partner in Nixon Peabody LLP’s Intellectual Property practice and works out of their Washington, DC office. Jeff received his JD from George Washington University in Washington, DC in 1990 and has lived in the capital area ever since.
Jeff acts as co-practice group leader for the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, as well as the Chair of the firm’s Global Strategies Team.
Jeff’s work involves working with both U.S. and overseas based companies to develop overall, effective global intellectual property protection strategies. Jeff has extensive experience in all aspects of securing patent and trademark protection before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and enforcement in the federal courts. Jeff has worked closely with large and small high technology companies to protect their developments in electronic circuits, semiconductors, LCD and electroluminescent displays, chemical composites and polymers, locomotive and other transportation monitoring and sensing technologies, large scale product conveying equipment, mining technologies and microwave food packaging technologies, as well as, other consumer products.
Jeff’s international efforts include regular visits to Europe and Asia, as well as in-house and public speaking engagements. Jeff has established personal, longstanding relationships with companies and attorneys throughout the world, particularly in Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Canada, India, United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany that help him understand the differing local economic and legal motivations driving companies from each of these jurisdictions.
Jeff and his wife, Mikel (also from St. Charles, Missouri), have been married for 30+, and have three great children, Zachary, Kelsey, and Riley. Zach graduated from Clemson University majoring in International Trade and Economics and Spanish; Kelsey graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in Business Marketing and Sales; and Riley graduated from Auburn University with a major in healthcare administration and economics. Jeff joined the Academy in 2013.
