Mike and his wife, Ellen Westerman, ChE 1985, have been strong supporters of Missouri S&T over the years. Mike was the core recruiter for Cargill Incorporated at Missouri S&T for over 20 years hiring numerous S&T Engineers. Mike currently leads the global engineering organization, as Vice President - Engineering, for Crown Iron Works, a supplier of solid-liquid separation equipment to the Food Vegetable Oil, Biofuel, Industrial and Oleo Chemical Industries.
Mike graduated from the University of Missouri - Rolla in 1984 and joined Cargill Incorporated as a production management trainee at Cargill's Memphis Tennessee Vegetable Oil facility on January 2, 1985. In 1990, Mike became the youngest Plant Manager in Cargill history (at that time) in Iowa Falls, Iowa and the Acquisition Leader of the largest acquisition (at that time in 1995) in Cargill history. Over a 32-year career at Cargill, Mike held a variety of Engineering, Operations and Management roles in Tennessee, Oiwa, Ohio, Kansas, Florida, Germany, England and Minnesota in the Vegetable Oil, Corn Milling, Fertilizer, Salt, Deicing, and Health & Nutrition Industries. Prior to retiring from Cargill, Mike was the business leader for Cargill Optimizing Services - a consulting engineering organization designed to support Cargill customers by improving the Customer's manufacturing capabilities.

Mike was born in Frankfurt, Germany and as an Army brat, moved around the world finally graduating high school in Wiesbaden, Germany. He is fluent in German. In his current role, Mike manages teams in North and South America, Germany, England and China. Throughout his life and career, he has enjoyed living and working in diverse cultures.
Mike and Ellen have generously supported the University and Chemical Engineering department through phone-a-thons and annual donations. Mike has helped hire over 50 Missouri S&T graduates over the years.
