Kurt joined The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering in 1993. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1998 and Full Professor in 2005. Kurt has made an impact in four areas of research: interfacial polymer fluid dynamics, polymer nanocomposite materials, rheology of polymer melts and solutions, and advanced polymer molding technologies. His work has been recognized with the NSF CAREER Development Award, NSF Industrial Ecology Faculty Fellowship, OSU Lumley Research award, OSU Interdisciplinary Research Award, and appointment as Director of the NSF Industry/University Cooperatvie Research Center for Advanced Polymer and Composite Engineering. His research has led to over 100 refereed journal articles, 80 conference proceedings, and several patents.

Kurt really enjoys providing undergraduate students with both in-class and out-of-class learning experiences. He has served as AIChE Student Chapter Advisor which was recognized as one of the outstanding student chapters in the country. He also serves on the University Honors & Scholars Faculty Board which promotes the intellectual and personal development of high-ability undergraduate students through co-curricular activities.

Kurt has served as a member of the Missouri S&T Chemical Engineering Advisory Council from 2002-2009. He is also a member of the 1986 swimming team that was elected into the UMR Athlectic Hall of Fame in 2003. He greatly values the time management skills he developed as a student athlete swimming 4 hours a day and completing a degree in a demanding chemical engineering program. Kurt resides in Powell, Ohio with his wife, Heather, and son, Kaden.
