Virendra started his academic career at Banaras University in India in 1957. In 1959, he came to the University of Missouri-Rolla to study for his MS degree. After receiving his MS degree, he returned to Banaras University to teach from 1962-1966.In 1966, Virendra returned to the University of Missouri-Rolla to study for his PhD. He received his PhD in 1970 and accepted a teaching position at Oklahoma State University where he taught for 2 years. In 1972, Virendra returned to Banaras University in India to teach until 1974. In 1974, Virendra accepted a position of professor at the University of New Hampshire where he is still teaching.

For the past thirty-five years, Virendra has been very active in teaching, research, and development work in energy and environmental pollution related to aspects of chemical engineering and associated product development.The projects have been funded by private industry and government organizations. Some of his research work is being commercialized. He has supervised 33 MS and 9 PhD theses. He has over 110 refereed and non-refereed publications and 5 patents. He also writes commentaries on current topics for the state newspapers. He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society, Paper Institute Management Association, Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry and the Phi Kappa Phi.Virendra resides in Durham, New Hampshire.
