Maureen joined Amazon’s Global Operations and Supply Chain team in March 2015 to establish and lead global functions including engineering, real estate, technology development and deployment, and IT. These growing global teams partner with the regional equivalents to improve standards, designs, and best practices for all of Amazon’s fulfillment operations. March 2020 Maureen assumed responsibility for NA fulfillment operations, the largest organization in Amazon with over 500,000 team members.
Prior to this move Maureen served as Senior Vice President of Global Manufacturing Engineering and Lean Enterprise at Henkel Corporation. Her teams created and deployed process industry specific lean tools and protocol in over 140 adhesives manufacturing plants around the world. Under her leadership the first global manufacturing engineering teams were formed covering standards, packaging engineering, process engineering, project management, the advanced technology roadmap, and all major pilot plant operations.
Maureen began her career with General Motors (GM) as a summer intern at the St. Louis Truck and Bus facility. Over 33 years she worked her way through every level of manufacturing engineering and operations management in seven different assembly plants in Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee. Midgley was plant manager at both GM’s EV1 facility in Lansing Michigan, and in Lordstown Ohio, building GM’s small car lines. Before leaving for Henkel, she served as the Executive Director of the Global Paint and Polymer Center (GPPC). GPPC was responsible for technology development and deployment in GM paint shops in all regions of the globe, paint and polymer engineering for all product programs, and global exterior quality. This global engineering group supported 85 facilities in 35 countries.
She has served on numerous boards covering business incubators, educational institutions, and the Academy of Chemical Engineers where she also held VP and President positions from 2009 to 2013. Maureen is an Athena award recipient, recognized as one of the top 100 women in the auto industry since 2005, and was awarded two honorary doctorates: Youngstown State University in 2003 and Missouri University of Science and Technology in 2013. A strong advocate for lifelong learning and education, she volunteers for STEM advocacy with students of all ages as well as furthers her own knowledge, recently focusing on public policy and the environment.
