Paul was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating from Lindbergh High School. He studied at the University of Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri University of Science and Technology), worked as a co-op student for IBM in Lexington, Kentucky, and graduated with a BS Chemical Engineering in 1988. He later received a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Houston – Clear Lake, with elective coursework in Environmental Law and Environmental Permitting.
Following graduation from UMR, Paul went to work for PPG Industries, Inc. as a Quality Control Engineer at its flat glass plant at Crystal City, Missouri. A job transfer took Paul to PPG’s Fine Chemicals Plant in La Porte, Texas, as a Production Engineer. Several years later, Paul moved to Environmental Engineering. Through successive roles at PPG, Millennium Petrochemicals, Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., and The Chemours Company over 30 years, Paul has expanded his professional experience from hazardous waste management, Process Safety Management (PSM)/Risk Management Program (RMP) to air emission permitting and emission compliance and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), chairing both Air Products CEMS Users Group and Air Center of Excellence (COE).
Paul lives in Houston, Texas, with his wife of nearly 28 years, Diane, an IT Professional. Their son, Jay, will graduate from Louisiana State University (LSU) in May with a degree in Music & Music Education, with plans to attend graduate school and teach at the college level. Paul’s outside interests have included serving as a construction volunteer and board member for Bay Area Habitat for Humanity and volunteer and board member for the Exploration Green Conservancy. The Exploration Green Conservancy is the nonprofit part of the Exploration Green project to convert a former golf course to five 100-million-gallon stormwater detention lakes surrounded by a nature preserve to mitigate flooding and restore native habitat in the Clear Lake area of Houston.
