THOMAS SCHMITT |
Tom began his career with the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) after graduating in 1979 from UMR. Tom worked in multiple assignments and locations for ARCO from 1979-1996. Locations included Longview TX, Morgan City LA, Houston TX, Dallas TX, Anchorage AK, and Los Angeles CA, Tom worked as a Petroleum Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Research Engineer, Division Planning, multiple supervision assignments and Corporate Planning at ARCO.
During his tenure at ARCO, Tom took a leave of absence for two years and obtained his MBA from the Harvard Business School in Boston, MA..
In 1996, Tom left the oil industry to start a career on Wall Street in New York City. He joined Alliance Capital as a Senior Vice President responsible for oil and gas equity research, He became a portfolio manager as well at Alliance and co- managed the Global Research Growth Fund, a product that grew from $50 million in assets to $65 billion in 5 years. Tom became head of U.S. Equity Research in 2006 and managed two other multi sector growth funds.
In 2008 left Alliance Bernstein and founded Taum Sauk Capital Management with the retired Chairman of Alliance. Taum Sauk is an energy and natural resource managed account investment firm that also has a quantitative sector fund. The company is jointly managed today by Nancy and Tom Schmitt.
In 2012, Tom returned to the Energy Industry with Hunt Oil based in Dallas. Tom became Senior Vice President at Hunt responsible for Hunt’s oil and gas operations in Kurdistan Iraq. In 2015, Tom became President of the Hunt Refining Company. Hunt Refining is an independent and private petroleum refining company with it’s largest refinery based in Tuscaloosa Alabama.
Tom was appointed in 2018 to the Board of Directors of Lekoil Plc. Lekoil Plc is a West African based oil and gas exploration and production company traded on the London stock exchange.
Tom is married to Nancy Schmitt. Nancy has a B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Rice University and a MBA from the Harvard Business School in Boston. Nancy’s career includes multiple assignments at both ARCO and the McKinsey Company.
Tom and Nancy have three children. The oldest Katherine is a graduate of Cornell University and works for E&Y in New York. Rosalyn is a Senior at MS&T majoring in Engineering Management. Ben is a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma majoring in Industrial Engineering . Tom and Nancy reside in Dallas, TX.
