Prior to founding Missouri Electrochem in 1969, Dick honed his knowledge of the industry with Olin Industries, Universal Match Corporation, and G.S. Robins & Company. He is well known on campus with many years of service in the Alumni Association, including terms as past President of the Alumni Association from 1976-78, President of the St. Louis section in 1961, a Public Resource Ambassador, a Chancellor's Leadership Class speaker, and an Honorary Knight of St. Patrick. He was awarded the Presidential Citation from the University of Missouri for volunteer service in 1984. Richard and his wife Shirley have been members of OGS since 1987, and members of the William Greenleaf Elliot Society of Washington University since 1985. They reside in St. Louis, Missouri. Richard was inducted into the Academy in 1996.
