During a career that has spanned 35 years with ExxonMobil Chemical Company, Marvin has worked in environmental and energy planning and various roles in technical, process and maintenance supervisor and manager positions. He has been involved with rubber and polymer processes where he received the Exxon President's Award for community service in 1993 and the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Ethylene Elastomers Business for Outstanding Long Term Contributions in 1998.

While Marvin was attending UMR, he served as AIChE president and Tau Beta Pi president, served as business manager of the Missouri Miner (newspaper); involved in Blue Key, Alpha Phi Omega, Rollamo, Intercollegiate Knights, Circle K, MSPE, Student Council, Phi Eta Sigma, Omega Chi Epsilon, and Academic Council. Marvin was also named outstanding UMR graduate, with the awarding of the AP Green medal. Marvin has served as a board member for the MSM-UMR Alumni Association, chair of the AIChE Student Chapter Awards Subcommittee since 1978, the LSU University College Advisory Board, the LSU Chemical Engineering Department Advisory Council, a board member of the LSU Museum of Art, a board member of Louisiana Public Broadcasting, and many various community organizations.

Marvin and his wife reside in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and they have 5 children. Marvin was inducted into the Academy in 2006.
