David began his career in 1957 as a Chemical Engineering instructor at UMR. In June of 1964, he joined the Ethyl Corporation and began his employment in Process Design and Evaluation. He was transferred to Manufacturing Technical Services as a supervisor in 1969. A year later, he was moved to Process & Economic Evaluation where he remained supervisor for six years. From 1976 to 1979, David supervised a team that designed and started an insecticide intermediate plant. Dr. Bunch became Product Manager of the Industrial Chemical Division with the responsibility for ag chemical intermediate products in 1979, and he later was transferred in 1982 to the Special Chemical Division as Marketing Manager responsible for ag chemical and specialty polymer intermediate products. David was made Associate Director of Commercial Development in 1987 where he handled business development for new products. In 1990, he became R&D Planning & Analysis Director and remained there until he retired in January of 1994.

Since then, David has been active and has held leadership positions in a number of civic organizations including the West Feliciana (LA) Community Development Foundation, the West Feliciana Head Start Program, the Rotary Club of St. Francisville, Louisiana, and the Grace Episcopal Church. David is married to the former Carolyn Hoffmeyer and they reside in St. Francisville, Louisiana. David was inducted into the Academy in 2001.
