    In 1974, Ron began his career with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. From 1974-1979, he served as Principal Investigator on a variety of Energy Research programs and he developed expertise in chemical and physical separation processes. In 1979, Ron became group leader and directed research and development efforts in several areas, including investigations to develop mixed oxide nuclear fuels using the sol-gel process. In 1983, he went to work for Central Engineering Division, Martin Marietta and successor company Lockheed Martin Energy Systems. From 1984-1999, Ron held three positions: process design engineering manager, waste management engineering manager, and manager of facility engineering. In 1999, he returned to Oak Ridge National Laboratory Chemical Technology Division. He was manager of Radiochemical Process and Facility Design, Nuclear Science and Technology Division and Director of the Heavy Isotope Management Group. He led an engineering section responsible for the design, fabrication, and installation of special equipment in nuclear facilities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
    Ron has served on the Y-12 Nuclear Weapons Plant Site Evaluation Board-Price Anderson Amendment Acts, Y-12 Nuclear Criticality Safety Committee, Y-12 Technical Support Center team for emergency responses, and ORNL Nuclear Facilities Review Committee and has more than 25 publications. He has professional memberships with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society for Engineering Management, the Metallurgy Society, and he is a registered professional engineer in Tennessee. He received awards as Manager of the Year, Engineer of the Year, and an Industrial Research Award for development of continuous annular chromatography. Ron retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory in December 2003. He is now Senior Program Manager fro Department of Energy Contracts at Pro2Serve Professional Project Services in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Ron has been active at UMR, serving on the Corporate Development Board of the University of Missouri-Rolla from 1993-1999. Ronald and his wife Mary Alice reside in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ron was inducted into the Academy in 2002.
