 After graduation, Richard started his career with Black & Veatch and is still with the company today.He is currently a Vice President and serves as the Strategic Projects Director for Energy's Consulting Engineering Services Business. He is responsible for services associated with coal fueled generation and clean coal technologies projects, including gasification technologies. Prior to his current position, Richard served as Project Management and Technologies Director, and as the Business Area Director for New Generation Engineering Services, which is comprised of three service areas: Design Engineering, Owner's Engineer, and Water Management.

Richard has provided project management and engineering services on numerous steam plants, combustion turbine, gasification technology, and retrofit projects, both in EPC and traditional engineering roles. He is currently involved with several technology assessments for clients considering gasification and IGCC technologies, and is Black & Veatch project executive for Owner's Engineering Services for an IGCC project for Lake Charles Cogeneration LLC, and for a coal to synthetic natural gas project in the Midwestern U.S. Richard has recently served as EPC project manager on the BOP for two 610 MW coal fired units in Indonesia.He was also the Black & Veatch executive assigned to technical due diligence assessments and independent engineering for the SARLUX 550 MW IGCC project in Italy. Richard and his wife Susan live in Overland Park, Kansas.
