Dr. Ryan Gilbert completed his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He has held professorship positions at Michigan Technological University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is currently the Linda and Bipin Doshi Department Chair and Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.  His laboratory has been funded by NIH, NSF, the Veterans Affairs, and several foundations to develop biomaterials for tissue regeneration and to develop drug and gene biomaterials primarily for the treatment of nervous system injuries. This work has resulted in 90 peer-reviewed publications, yielding an h-index of 39.  His lab's work has also produced five issued patents. Dr. Gilbert is a fellow of the American Institute of Biological and Medical Engineers (AIMBE) and an Editor-in-Chief of the journal Cells Tissues Organs. He has received the Dean's Classroom Excellence Award, the Trustee's Outstanding Teaching Award, and the NSF CAREER Award while at Rensselaer.
