After Michael completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at UMR, he started a career with NL Industries, Inc., in St. Louis, Missouri as an Engineer and Production Supervisor. In 1972, he moved to Charleston, West Virginia where he became a Project Engineering for the construction of their New Bentone Plant. In 1974, Michael was promoted to Bentone Plant Production Manager, where he stayed until 1978. For the next 36 years until his retirement in 2014, Michael served as the Manager of the Newberry Springs California Plant and Hector Mine which NL Industries subsequently sold to Elementis Sepcialities, PLC when it divested itself of Rheox, Inc., its specialty subsidiary.

Michael has been a board member or officer of many organizations, including President of the California Mining Association, California Construction and Industrial Minerals Association, UMR Alumnia Association, and Newberry Springs Chamber of Commerce. In his free time, Michael enjoys gold, fishing, and taekwondo. He resides in Gardena, California.
