Mary Treis McLaughlin obtained her B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri Rolla in 1981.  She started her career with Black and Veatch as a design engineer in the power industry and took on successively increasing roles of engineering manager and project manager working extensively in southeast Asia.  In 2000, she joined Bechtel Corporation as a Senior Project Manager in their Power global business unit.  As a project manager she was responsible for multi-billion-dollar fixed price Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) power projects and telecommunication projects.  She took on increasing responsibility serving as Manager of Procurement for the Power global business unit, Operations Manager for the power business line, the President of the power business line, Operations Manager for communication business line, and Manager of Functions for the Infrastructure global business unit.  She was elected a principal vice president in 2009 and a senior vice president in 2015. 

In 2015 Mary became the corporate Manager of EPC Functions and a member of Bechtel’s Operating Committee.  As the Manager of EPC Functions, she was responsible for delivering integrated EPC processes and procedures and in this capacity transformed the IS&T and EPC functions.  She was also responsible for the advancement and adoption of innovation within the enterprise and was the architect and leader of Bechtel’s digital enterprise program to convert Bechtel’s execution to a fully integrated data-centric operation.  In her corporate role, Mary also oversaw the startup of bechtel.org – a social enterprise established to deliver impact infrastructure to improve the lives of people.  

In 2018, Mary was elected director to the Bechtel Group, Inc., board, serving on the Operating Committee and the Board of Directors until her retirement in 2021.
