Joseph (Joe) M. Schardl, Jr. received his BSCHE from the University of Missouri at Columbia and his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla (Orrin K. Crosser advisor). He joined USS Chemicals, Div. Of US Steel (later becoming Aristech Chemical) in 1970, and worked in a variety of development, engineering, quality assurance, marketing, and manufacturing functions. In 1987, Joe left Aristech, today known as Sunoco Chemicals, as Polypropylene Plant Manager, and joined Fina Oil and Chemical Company (today TOTAL Petrochemicals USA, Inc.) where he has worked in technical and operations management. Currently, Joe is Manager of Market Development Polypropylene with TOTAL Petrochemicals USA, Inc.

Much of the last twelve years has been spent developing products, applications and markets for metallocene catalyzed propylene polymers, both isotactic and syndiotactic. Joe has written and presented a number of papers and holds two patents in the polymer area. Today Joe and his wife Joan live in Houston, Texas.They have two daughters and 5 grandchildren (4 coming all at once!).
