In 1965, Kent joined the Bendix/AlliedSignal Corporation, where he began his career as a Junior Engineer. He progressed to the position of Director of Manufacturing Operations in 1990, where he was responsible for production of all assemblies and piece parts for the Department Energy Nuclear Weapons Program. In 1992, Kent became the Director of the Program Management Division, where he was accountable for program management, operational surety, environmental restoration programs, technology transfer, new business development and implementation, work-for-other programs, and activities and cost controls that supported customer requirements. In 1994, Kent retired from Bendix/AlliedSignal after working for the company for more than 29 years. He and his wife Sue have been members of OGS since 1997 and reside in Leawood, Kansas. The Thoeni's have two children. Kent was inducted into the Academy in 1997, and was past president of the Academy.
