Al is the president of Wentz Health Care, Inc. and retired as president of International Scientific Management, Inc. Al served as the Associate Dean of the Petroleum and Petrochemical College at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. He was formerly a manager at Argonne National Laboratory in hazardous waste management and safety engineering. Al has also been a manager of waste management at the University of North Dakota (UND) Energy Research Center where he was responsible for environmental research projects. While at UND, he was a Professor of Engineering Management. He has taught safety, health, and environmental management to undergraduate and graduate students. He has also conducted continuing education programs for several professional societies. His prior industrial experience includes the presidency of ENSCO in Arkansas, the presidency of Newpark Waste Treatment in New Orleans, and various executive positions with Phillips Petroleum in oil shale, chemicals, polymers, federal government relations, and investor relations.
Al received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla, his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Northwestern University, and a M.B.A. from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He is also a graduate of the Sloan Program for Senior Executives at M.I.T. He chaired numerous technical sessions at national AIChE meetings, and he has organized and presented conferences and workshops dealing with safety, health, and the environment. Al is a member of a number of business, honorary, and technical organizations including Marquis Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. He has authored two college textbooks, Hazardous Waste Management (2 editions) and Safety, Health and Environmental Protection, and co-authored the textbook, Occupational and Environmental Safety Engineering and Management. An avid chef, he has authored two cookbooks, Chef Al's Gourmet Treasures and Chef Al's Culinary Delights. Al has also written numerous technical papers and book chapters on environmental and safety matters. Active in civic affairs, Al has belonged to several Rotary Clubs, and served as president of the Alpha Kappa Educational Foundation and has been on the Board of Directors of the Alpha Kappa House Corporation and the Lincoln School Alumni Foundation. His Edwardsville High School Wentz Family Endowed Fund awards numerous scholarships to graduating seniors to attend universities and vocational schools.  He has a donor advised fund that awards scholarships to UMR Officers of AIChE and Omega Chi Epsilon, and chemical engineering students at Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity. Al is a native of Edwardsville, Illinois where he and his wife Joan reside. They became members of OGS in 1999. Al was inducted into the Academy in 1997.
