Abstract
"Creating a medical diagnostic, from discovery through product launch"
This lecture will cover the initial biological discoveries that provided the foundation for the diagnostic in an academic setting, then creating/transferring to a company, then work to make it robust, setting up clinical validation and clinical trials partners, a bit about FDA and/or Lab Developed Tests and then approaches to acceptance and sales.
Abstract
An introduction to research for medical students and residents
An introductory lecture for biomedical engineers, medical students and hospital residents who are going to start a research project (usually a few months duration), from developing a right-sized hypothesis, to design, IRB and other requirements, data analysis and presenting results (presentation or report/publication). This will illustrate some of the differences between the type of research done by university faculty/students and those done at medical schools/hospitals by students/clinicians who usually have no experience in research but want to start.
